LISTEN: “The Bike Song” by Mark Ronson featuring Spank Rock and Kyle Falconer

Mark Ronson, I love you. Catchy, fun song not just about aimlessly riding your bike but about some srsbsns, and growing up and shizz, complete with bike bell rings in the beat.

Record Collection is to be released in the end of September.

DOWNLOAD: Soulwax Hard Summer 2010 Set (mediafire, via GottaDanceDirty)

Extremely upset that Soulwax has been touring everywhere except New York and was actually considering flying on over to LA to see Hard 2010 just for them. But alas, nobody has thrown cash moneys at me to have financed that trip. So, was very happy to see this set uploaded (sans audience noises!!), so we can all pretend we were at LA and rock out to the epicness that is Soulwax.

    LISTEN: “The Drug” by Royksopp

Seems like Junior was just released last week or something, but I’m super hyped for their new album, Senior. “The Drug” is the first single off of the new album and its beautiful and mellow. Their little blurb about it really puts it in perspective:

This highly synthetic drug is the latest craze. Gentle and appealing at first. Repeated use will result in severe personality distortion. Hear that little sound in your head? That ever decaying little “melody”? ..That’s your mind going…

Royksopp’s instrumental tracks have always been my favorite and this one definitely does not disappoint. Buy the track over on iTunes.

DOWNLOAD: “Off the Map (Tronik Youth GPS Mix)” by Simian Mobile Disco (download via Too Many Sebastians)

Booya, an opportunity to post a picture of space. Why? Because, when I listen to this song I imagine having a magical dance party through nebulae and universes. What? Yeah I don’t know. I think this is an exclusive with the awesome blog, Too Many Sebastians. Simian Mobile Disco has always been hit or miss with me; I either really like their songs or are really turned off. The original “Off the Map” was a miss but this remix is probably one of my favorite songs so far. Like the autotuned version of Bed Intruder, I haven’t been able to stop listening to this even though I’m sick of it.

Tronik Youth’s next single will be out on Relish so look out for that in ze futureeee.

DOWNLOAD: “Waterfall (Fear of Tigers Remix)” by Rosanna (mediafire)

Happy August y’all. More updates will come I swear - life has been busy. This one is a bit delayed but a new release from Swedish singer, Rosanna. Yes, she sort of sounds just like Robyn but her single, “Waterfalls”, is quite good. Its going to be released through PopJustice Hi-Fi on August 22nd. The original is more emo and slow-paced than this remix (still really good), but this remix is delightful. If you like Buffetlibre, you’ll be into this.

    Listen, dance, repeat.

    treasurefingers:

This was recorded from a live awdio.com stream during my San Francisco show at Temple on July 17th 2010. There’s some minor glitches throughout and heavy compression, but it still turned out pretty good. No tracklisting, sorry.

WATCH: “She (I Can’t Resist)” by Jesse Johnson on Soul Train

Sort of random but I can’t tell you guys how much I love watching old school dance shows on YouTube. Brings back memories of growing up on The Grind and Soul Train. Also watching people prance around in crazy ass outfits makes me a jolly girl. Check out the Rosie Perez cameo - you better werk.

  • July 19, 08:24 PM

DOWNLOAD: “Plz Let Mi Fuk Ya” by Brodinski featuring Radioclit” (via Discobelle - use Pay With a Tweet)

Labels keep coming up with ways to combat piracy - this new one from Discobelle Records comes from Pay With a Tweet. The track is free but you “pay” for it by devoting your Facebook or Twitter status/update to this song. Kind of spiffy. New track from Discobelle’s Turned On Volume 1 Compilation (buy the whole thing at Beatport). Its been a while since we’ve posted heavy untz-untz-untz house music (ignore the first few seconds people with light ears). Despite the song title, and the heavy bassline, the “melody” is surprisingly light. Reminds me of the Space Jam soundtrack with some good old fist pumping.

DOWNLOAD: “Where I’m Going” by Cut Copy (download via official Cut Copy site)

Cut Copy fans rejoice - new single from them available for free if you just head on over to the their official site (how generous - sankyu!). Kind of the perfect song for the summer because it sounds like modern day Beach Boys. Plus, whenever I get images of myself frolicking on a gloriously sunny day on a beach while listening to a song, you know its win.

New York: they are also headlining a show at the Williamsburg Waterfront (for free!) on August 8th.

  • July 19, 07:37 PM

DOWNLOAD: “Superstring (Rayko Remix)” by Space Ranger” (Mediafire)

A bit of a delay on this, but new release from Space Ranger. If you don’t know much about them, read up because their press release bio is sort of amazing:

Space Ranger come from the stars…In their previous disguises they have done remixes for the likes of Kool and The Gang, Sugababes or Kurtis Blow, but now they are absolutely focused on this project. Space is the place. By accessing to samples taken from a huge collection of old-school dance, disco and soul records they are creating the distinctive and sophisticated house and disco sound of today.

Yeah dude, space is the place. I love this remix - slower and heavier than the original, but I just love the way it builds. The new EP is out and can be sampled at Soundcloud, and bought at Juno

LISTEN: “Alive (Joakim NRG Dub)” by Goldfrapp

Sooo the Goldfrapp single for “Alive” has been out since June but this is a perfect time to show Joakim some love. If you are in New York, Joakim is doing a show at the basement of the Tribeca Grand this Saturday. This remix has been my jam for the last few weeks because its so freaking disco it hurts. I’m going to say that its probably going to be in my 2010 favorite tracks. Make sure to buy the “Alive” remix package featuring a vocal version by Joakim, a remixes by Tensnake and others.

WATCH: “Oh No!” by Marina and the Diamonds

Happy Friday! New video from Marina and the Diamonds for “Oh No!”. Blog-worthy for 3 reasons: 1. The song - love how heavy the bass line is because it makes a simple pop song seem really epic. 2. I wish my life was exactly like this video. Y’know frolicking in red bubble wrap and SEQUINS. 3. Most importantly, the song title reminds me of Bruce from Family Guy. Oh noessssss y’all!

DOWNLOAD: “I Crave Paris” by Aeroplane (right click, save as)

Lots of changes going on over at Aeroplane HQ - first Aeroplane is now just one (Vito) and they’ve also hit their 10,000th fan on Facebook. Why does the latter matter? Because they were generous enough to give out their “Paris” remix mashed up with Flight Facilities’s “Crave You” to celebrate. It was featured on their Essential Mix a while back and was one of my many favorite moments of that mix (including the Human League instrumental and the inclusion of Joakim’s Goldfrapp remix). I mean two of my favorite songs mashed up together sounds like heaven nah means? Make sure to click through to their Soundcloud for more goodies.

LISTEN: “Don’t Turn the Lights On” by Chromeo

DOWNLOAD: “You Wanted a Hit (Soulwax Remix)” by LCD Soundsystem (right click, save as)

Oh hai dere. Sorry for the long hiatus - there was frolicking to be done in Europe for the last 2.5 weeks so now we catching up for a bit. Any time a new Soulwax remix comes out I pee myself a little bit so I’m pretty hyped for this one. Don’t think its their best LCD Soundsystem remix but its still pretty great. It has the distorted bass that is typical of most Soulwax remixes - also love how it just builds and drones on starting at around 4:11.

LISTEN: “Love Get Out of My Way (Holy Ghost! Dub)” by Monarchy

Wow I really wish I had the actual mp3 of this because it is just incredible. You like disco funk? Because this song is perfection (also dancers and scary prancing children are cool too I guess). Annie Mac premiered this on her show so this is just a rip but look out for the actual download along with a vocal edit in the future.

WATCH: “Feel So Good” by The Juan MacLean

Recorded specifically for their DJ-KiCKS compilation, The Juan MacLean is back with a new song. “Feel So Good” is pulsating and totally perfect for your next house party (untz untz untz untz). I’m totally amused that this guy looks like Vinny from Jersey Shore, y’know if he decided to trade in fist pumping for groovy hip swaying and liquid dancing.

LISTEN: “Bang Bang Bang” by Mark Ronson featuring MNDR and Q-Tip (via The Fader)

Mark Ronson premiered “Bang Bang Bang” a few days ago on Zane Lowe’s show. It’s a super catchy pop song with a fairly simple beat. Nice vocals on MNDR sounding like a British Santigold.

Record Collection is set to be released in September and features collaborations with Boy George, Miike Snow, Theophilius London and others

WATCH: “Get Wild” by Kano Featuring Aidonia and Wiley

FYI, start watching this at 54 seconds to avoid annoying radio noises and stuff. CLUB BANGGERRRRRRRR. With some help from Boys Noize (on this track), Hot Chip and others, Kano is getting ready to release his album Method to Maadness in August. The beat definitely sounds like Boys Noize but with dancehall all up on this, its like a Major Lazer x grime love child or something. Not a bad thing because now I just want to have a sweaty dance party.

Download the track over at Kano’s World

DOWNLOAD: Lazerproof by Major Lazer and La Roux (zshare)

Holy hype machine. Mad Decent and crew had to scrap their email program because their servers couldn’t handle all the downloads. To be honest, I was a bit apprehensive about listening to this because I’ve never been a huge fan of reggae and dubstep (I love Major Lazer’s album though so whatevs) but now that I’ve downloaded and am listening to it, one can’t really doubt Diplo’s and Switch’s ability to produce great songs. The mixtape is as diverse as Major Lazer’s taste: dancehall, chill-out reggae, and more. Definitely worth a listen. On a random note, totally thought that Elly Jackson on that cover was supposed to be Samus from Super Metroid - false. Sorry I’m stuck in 1994.

    Tracklist
    1. Bulletproof (Nacey Remix ft. Matt Hemerlein)

DOWNLOAD: “Overdrive (Morgan Geist Remix)” by Bot’ox (right click, save as)

Just browsing our inbox and found this in here. Overdrive is right - it starts off slow and you can’t really tell where its going. Then everything starts to kick in all the sudden and you feel like you’ve lost your brakes on your delorean on an 8-bit freeway. Minimalistic but also exhilarating and frenetic. Don’t really understand why more people haven’t been covering Bot’ox actually.

Bot’ox’s “Overdrive” EP (complete with the original and a slew of remixes, including this one) comes out on June 7th

DOWNLOAD: Dirty South Dance 2 by A-Trak (use widget below)

So I’ve been hyping this like crazy and now the day has come! Major thanks to A-Trak for being generous enough to release it into the internetz. Sequel to 2007’s first Dirty South Dance (and personal favorite of mine), A-Trak’s back again mashing together popular hip hop songs with dance songs (Claude Von Stroke, Jan Driver and more). Love the inclusion of DJ Craze’s remix of Donnis’s “Gone” and Carte Blanche’s new song with Kid Sister. A deluxe pack will be released with Obey about 3 weeks from now so look out for that. Tracklist below along with previews of songs that have already been released:

DOWNLOAD: “Hearts on Fire (Jerry’s Drum Dub)” by Cut Copy (right click, save as)

So I’ve been on a bit of a music deficit recently - the only things I’ve been listening to religiously are Aeroplane’s mixes for that Joakim remix of Goldfrapp that isn’t out (check out the March mix and Essential mix) and Holy Ghost’s remix of “Drunk Girls” because it is absolutely incredible. Then I stumbled upon Holy Ghost’s blog and found the following video of Jerry Fuchs killing it on the drums. Thought I should share a relatively old dub of Jerry on a Cut Copy remix. If you are a huge fan of drums and nothing else (like I am), you’ll probably really dig this remix.

Tweeted this earlier but I think it deserves a proper post. New mix by Mehdi and Riton’s project, Carte Blanche. Housey goodness of course with some new goodies including their latest single featuring the amazing Kid Sister, “Do! Do! Do!”. Here’s Carte Blanche’s motivation behind the mix:

We made this thinking of what could be the best thing to play at your house, on a friday night, when your friends are bumrushing your flat and your neighbours/parents/neighbourhood cops are out of town.

Au Revoir Simons - Only You Can Make You Happy (PUNCHES Remix) by punchesbk

Twinsies! Punches is made up of the Fingers on the Pulse DJs and Alan Astor. So the weather is getting ridiculously warm in NY, so whats more appropriate than a remix like this? Fun disco song for the summer that almost makes me feel like I should be flying back to the 90s and rocking out to some Real McCoy.

DOWNLOAD: “Trizzy Turnt Up” by A-Trak (right click, save as via The FADER)

I can’t tell you how excited I am for A-Trak’s Dirty South Dance 2. Given the caliber of the first Dirty South Dance and his already released Drake remix, I feel like this album is going to be ridiculously good. Check out the latest leak featuring Soulja Boy (yay…?) and Claude Von Stroke’s “Vocal Chords”. If you are in NY, he’ll be spinning at Shepard Fairey’s afterparty for his May Day exhibit at 88 Palace.

Also, just given the state of music now and its growing tolerance of electronic and dance music, I’m curious to see if this actually will get picked up by the mainstream audience (whatever that means). There’s a ton of potential here given the familiarity of the material.

LISTEN: “ADD SUV (Armand Van Helden Remix)” by Uffie featuring Pharrell

This is straight up bonkers. Dropped on Annie Mac’s show (explains the “FRRRIDDAYYY” scream in the beginning of the song), this remix really hypes up the original version. Great disco house track that’ll really tear up the dance floor.

DOWNLOAD: “I Am Not a Robot (Clock Opera Remix)” by Marina and the Diamonds (download via Neon Gold)

Clock Opera ‘A Piece of String’ (Teaser) [released 07th June 2010] from Clock Opera on Vimeo.

I think Clock Opera is one of my favorites now. They just really know how to create beautiful songs, this one being no exception. I love the way Marina’s voice is sampled because its just so fitting for such a dreamy song. Make sure to buy the HQ version of this song on iTunes.

Also, Clock Opera is releasing their new single, “A Piece of String”, which you can preview in the video above. Creative video - reminds me of when I was little when I was playing with rubber bands (giggle!) but so much more visually stunning and not in the shape of a dinosaur. Look out for it to be released on Maman Records on June 7th.

DOWNLOAD: “Drunk Girls (Holy Ghost! Remix)” by LCD Soundsystem (download via EMI)

Um so we’ve had like literally quite a million LCD Soundsystem posts in the last month. New remix from LCD Soundsystem’s DFA buddies, Holy Ghost!. Super fun and disco-y, which if you read Beatcakes enough, is pretty much all that takes to satisfy me. This song is in desperate need of some cut up clips of Donna Summer and disco balls or something. Someone jump on that.

Also, LCD Soundsystem has added a 4th night to their shows in New York at T5 along with Holy Ghost!. They also have an EP coming out on May 18th - more info at Holy Ghost!.

What the random? Dirty Projector’s Amber Coffman featured on the new single by Mad Decent’s dubstep extraordinaire, Rusko. Sub Focus’s remix is full of stutters and wobbly bass. A little bit faster and more upbeat than Rusko’s original version. Just as good though. Check out the original over at Prefix Mag and make sure to jump on Rusko’s first LP, O.M.G. to be released on May 4th.

    LISTEN: “Beyondce” by Javelin

I just like anything with Beyonce’s name, not going to lie. Kind of sounds like if Beyonce’s uber-producers decided to make a video game, in which Sasha Fierce takes over an 8-bit world. Vat?

    lightningcollective:

(Listen to “Beyondce” by Javelin off of their 2 EP)

    JAVELIN.

Javelin seem to have a knack for designating tracks with parodied names of celebrities. After  “Lindsay Brohan” off of their 2009 release  Jamz n Jemz they are back this time with a track titled “Beyondce” off of their  12” limited release EP 2. Possibly taking notes from the aforementioned R&B queen, the track starts off with a choppy R&B-laden rhythm with high-pitched, cheesy synth stabs and vocal swells. As the song progresses, the old-school vibe, characteristic of many of Javelin’s tracks becomes apparent. While not as production heavy as many of the songs on their two full LP’s released, Beyondce still takes its spot as one of their most head-nodding  and crowd pleasing tracks.

While cranking out 2 EPS and 2 LPS, the duo still finds enough time to produce remixes to add to their growing reusme. Their latest, a remix of “HEALTH’s In Heat off of their second album Get Color, leaves the aggression and intensity of the original at the door, and gives it a playful and upbeat mood. The track starts off of with an Indeep vocal sample, which paves the way for the stuttering bright synths and driving bassline. The hook is inviting, and once you are immersed into the song, it ends; leaving you reminiscent of summers long gone and hitting the back button on your mp3 player for a repeat listen. Be sure to check it out here.

DOWNLOAD: “Control the Engine” by Elite Force vs The Gossip (use widget below)

Elite Force’s rework of his original “Engine” is really enough to make this song sound awesome. It’s bass-heavy and makes you feel like you are in a techno city or something. Beth Ditto’s voice fits surprisingly well with it - I also love when he chops up her vocals because for some reason, she always sounds good when twitchy. Look out for a little bit of Mr. Oizo in the song as well. Check out Elite Force’s Revamped on his Beatport

DOWNLOAD: “That Tree (Diwon Remix featuring Kosha Dillz)” by Snoop Dogg and Kid Cudi (mediafire)

Fun freestyle and remix by Beatcakes favorite, Kosha Dillz (love that shout out to Jersey - haters to the left) and Diwon. Diplo’s original is sped up with Middle Eastern-inspired beats, and made a little less bass-heavy. Kosha Dillz taking full advantage of Diplo’s chromatic bassline though. He’ll be opening for Snoop for some European shows. More importantly, if you happen to be in Amsterdam on June 28th, and you’re from the US, you’ll get vip with Snoop and Kosha. Oh snap.

Funny because my co-worker introduced me to them a few months back - literally a few weeks later I see Two Door Cinema Club exploding all up on le hypem. DOWNLOAD: “Paradice Circus (iSkream Social Remix)” by Massive Attack (download via Soundcloud)

I’m not really one for dubsteppy remixes but I’m kinda digging this. iSkream Social mixes together some verses from Wiley’s “Take That” with Massive Attack’s “Paradice Circus”. I love the subtle climaxes and blips of intensity - just makes you hunger for the song to explode with a wobbly bassline, which of course, it does.  More info about iSkream Social over at her Myspace

Day old, but LCD Soundsystem has their entire album This is Happening streaming on their site. Its kind of amazing; I’ve been listening to “Pow Pow” nonstop for the last 2 days. Make sure to buy the album off of iTunes on May 18th. Also, go see some of their shows! James Murphy & co really are able to bring out a lot of energy in their fans. Great vibes.
